The Role:

As a Product Development Engineer, you will drive the development of new products within the commercial vehicle safety space. Your work will focus on electronic product design, validation, and supplier management, ensuring that products meet stringent quality standards. You'll collaborate closely with suppliers across high and low-cost countries and will occasionally work directly with customers to tailor solutions to their needs.

This role requires someone with a strong grounding in electronics engineering principles and a proactive approach to overcoming technical challenges. You'll be part of a forward-thinking organisation that values innovation, teamwork, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage product development throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Liaise with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and quality.
  • Develop engineering specifications and ensure products are designed for manufacturing.
  • Manage product verification and validation, coordinating both in-house and external resources.
  • Create detailed technical drawings and documentation for components.
  • Support customers, sales, and marketing teams with technical product knowledge.
  • Troubleshoot product faults down to PCB level and support quality teams as needed.

Technical Expertise:

  • Experience with LCD displays, camera development, audio processing, and object detection systems.
  • Strong knowledge of analogue and digital electronics, micro-processing, and digital signal processing systems.
  • Awareness of software/hardware integration, including communication protocols such as CAN, I2C, SPI, and RS232.
  • Familiarity with functional troubleshooting and product fault-finding processes.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics product development or similar field (mandatory).
  • 3+ years of experience in electronics product development.
  • Knowledge of analogue and digital electronics, micro-processing, and digital communication protocols.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with CAD development tools and Microsoft 365 Suite.
  • Proven ability to manage supplier relationships, especially in international contexts.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in automotive product development, particularly in LCD, camera, optics, and digital recording technology.
  • Basic embedded software skills (C, C++) and scripting (Python or similar).
  • Knowledge of modern automotive electronic architecture.
