**Job Title:**Housing Options Service HOST Casework Officer

Location: London Borough of Tower Hamlets

Remuneration: Hourly rate from £24 to £29.08

Contract Details: Temporary, 5 months with potential to extend, Hybrid

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a homelessness prevention, housing options, and bespoke service to single clients who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
  • Assist and guide clients with support needs to make appropriate choices regarding their housing pathways.
  • Ensure that clients receive appropriate advice on housing options alternatives to making a homeless application.
  • Progress all enquiries and cases promptly and efficiently, meeting set targets.
  • Maintain excellent customer service standards and contribute to their continuous improvement.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Use a dedicated assessment tool to determine the most suitable form of supported accommodation for clients.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of team plans, council plans, and strategies to meet targets and performance requirements.
  • Effectively communicate the council's duties and policies to customers and partner organisations through various channels.
  • Provide detailed customer care letters outlining advice given and agreed-upon housing pathways.
  • Write s184 decision letters.
  • Act as the main contact point for local hostel providers and foster excellent working practises between them and the council.
  • Make recommendations on the use of temporary discretionary accommodation.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive network of contacts across the public, private, and voluntary sectors to improve partnership working.
  • Collaborate with adult social care, children's services, mental health professionals, probation, and healthcare professionals to expedite assessments and determine suitable housing options.
  • Stay updated on developments in legislation, local and national policies, and protocols related to housing need and homelessness prevention.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the duties owed to the homeless under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Act 2002.
  • Knowledge of strategies for preventing homelessness and the main housing options initiatives provided by statutory and voluntary organisations.
  • Working knowledge of the Care Act and Equality Act as they pertain to single vulnerable individuals.
  • Evidence previous competency of dealing with housing options

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Ability to deliver homelessness prevention and housing option solutions tailored to diverse communities and customer needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to provide advice and information sensitively and persuasively.
  • Experience of working in a busy customer-oriented environment, delivering excellent customer service.
  • Excellent IT skills, including the use of databases and MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
