Health and Safety Officer

Our client, a growing education provider are looking for a Group Health and Safety Technician role is crucial in ensuring that all their locations maintain the highest standards of health and safety. This role directly impacts the safety and well-being of the children in our care by ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, supporting our expansion by ensuring new and existing sites meet safety standards, and enhancing team competence through training and support.

As the Group Health and Safety Technician, you will be responsible for conducting thorough health and safety audits, managing incidents, providing targeted training to staff, liaising with local authorities, and contributing to the development and implementation of risk assessments and safety protocols across all sites.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted support to sites, conduct unannounced safety audits, and deliver corrective training as needed. Facilitate compliance to achieve a safe and compliant environment across all sites. Attend meetings and update databases with actions taken.
  • Manage health and safety projects, including addressing severe safety concerns and improving standards at sites with identified risks.
  • Investigate health and safety incidents, including accidents, near-misses, and breaches in safety protocols. Prepare reports, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Act as the primary contact for Enforcement Officers and Local Authorities. Assist site managers with conducting and updating risk assessments, and liaise closely with the Health & Safety Manager to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Conduct annual refresher sessions, deliver health and safety training, advise on safety content, train new managers and staff teams, and provide guidance on safety best practices.
  • Monitor health and safety performance, ensuring that HACCP and other relevant safety standards are applied consistently. Provide regular reports on safety performance and areas for improvement.
  • Undertake additional health and safety projects as required to support the overall safety objectives of the organisation.

Skills

  • Technical Skills: In-depth understanding of health and safety regulations, practical knowledge of implementing safety protocols, and an exemplary record in maintaining safety standards.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and strong influencing skills.
  • Organisational Skills: Excellent ability to organise self and others to achieve necessary safety outcomes.
  • Accountability: Takes responsibility for ensuring health and safety compliance across all nurseries.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous in conducting inspections and reporting.
  • Problem-Solving: Proactively identifies safety issues and implements solutions.
  • Team Collaboration: Works effectively with different teams to achieve common safety goals.
  • Qualifications: Ideally, holder of Level 4 (Advanced) Health and Safety certificates or equivalent. Full driving licence.
