We are seeking a dedicated and inspiring Head of Religion, Values and Ethics to join a forward-thinking secondary school in Blaenau Gwent. This is a pivotal role for someone who is passionate about delivering a dynamic and thought-provoking curriculum that explores a range of beliefs, values, and ethical questions.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Lead the Religion, Values and Ethics department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning experiences for all students.
  • Develop and implement a diverse curriculum that reflects the needs of students and the ethos of the school.
  • Foster an environment of critical thinking, where students can explore various religious beliefs and ethical viewpoints respectfully.
  • Engage students in discussions that promote understanding, tolerance, and empathy.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching, learning, and assessment strategies within the department.
  • Provide professional development, support, and guidance to department staff.
  • Collaborate with other departments to create interdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Organise and oversee departmental events, trips, and guest speaker sessions.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a relevant degree.
  • Proven experience in teaching Religion, Values and Ethics or related subjects.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in managing or leading a team.
  • Excellent curriculum knowledge and the ability to design an engaging programme of study.
  • A commitment to inclusive education and the promotion of equal opportunities.
  • The ability to inspire, motivate and challenge students and staff.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
