Job Overview:
Oxfordshire City Council is seeking dedicated ESOL Tutors to work face-to-face with adult learners and provide additional support for online English lessons. This role is ideal for tutors who are passionate about helping adults improve their English speaking and writing skills. The position will begin with a three-month contract, with the possibility of extension based on performance and demand.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide weekly English tutoring sessions to adult learners in libraries and other community venues within the Cherwell District.
  • Cater to learners with varying levels of spoken and written English proficiency, helping them progress quickly and effectively.
  • Plan and prepare engaging, tailored tutoring sessions that meet the specific needs of each group.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive support programme using appropriate resources, with funding provided.
  • Deliver interactive and holistic learning experiences that support learners in achieving their educational goals.
  • Complete lesson reports and provide detailed feedback on learners' progress.

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Ensure reasonable care for your own health and safety, as well as that of others.
  • Follow health and safety protocols and cooperate with colleagues to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Use work items provided correctly, adhering to all relevant training and instructions.
  • Report any health and safety concerns to your line manager promptly.
  • Undertake any additional tasks as requested by the Director (or their representative) for Children, Young People, and Families.

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an ESOL Tutor, preferably with adult learners.
  • Strong ability to plan, deliver, and evaluate effective English lessons.
  • Flexibility to work with learners who have diverse learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive approach to supporting learners in their educational journey.
