Environmental Advisor

This permanent role will provide environmental support to operational teams working across various frameworks, including the National Gas Asset Health framework. The position involves travel, with initial projects spanning from Essex to the West Midlands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist and advise the operational and management team to develop management systems and operational practices
  • Support, review, and aid the population of construction phase plans, environmental plans, and review contractors' RAMS
  • Advise on specialist areas such as risk assessments, risk management, fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery, and occupational health
  • Assist with the development of SHE management systems
  • Liaise with external bodies including the Health and Safety Executive, clients, and other stakeholders as directed by the SHE Manager
  • Support incident management and investigation processes
  • Produce toolbox talks, team talks, and appropriate SHE training materials on health and safety issues and risks
  • Monitor trade contractors via site inspection and management audits
  • Act as a role model, supporting the MES Gas construction visions, priorities, and values

Job Requirements:

  • Consistently demonstrate high standards of safety behaviour, leading by example and promoting a safety culture
  • Experience as a Safety Advisor in a construction environment (Utilities experience desirable)
  • Knowledge and experience of Temporary Works management
  • Ability to influence at all levels
  • Ability to manage potential conflicts during site inspections with operational teams
  • Capable of delivering confident, articulate presentations
  • Proficient in the use of all Microsoft Office applications - Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • NEBOSH General or Construction certification
  • NRSWA qualification and Utility SHEA Gas Passport (desirable)
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel
  • Knowledge of SCO91 is preferable but not essential
