FINANCIAL CONTROLLER

Location: Milton Keynes - Chaffron Way Campus

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum

Role Purpose:

We are looking for a values-led experienced finance professional with excellent interpersonal skills to work closely with the Group Finance Director to inspire staff and work closely with the management accounting team to lead on the Budgeting Process and empower budget holders to understand, own and deliver strong contributions to the Group. This role is key to the provision of excellent financial support and information to internal stakeholders to enable effective financial management and best practice to assist in the achievement of College's financial targets and growth. It will also lead on the Year End Process and work closely with the external Audit Team. It will include overseeing the financial management of Group wide projects and Contracts and will contribute to a broad programme of business and strategic analysis underpinning MK College Group's strategic objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Finance Director to develop and deliver an effective college accounting function across all Group areas, including Campus and Prison Services. To include planning, allocating resources, financial forecasts for the college and subsidiary companies, month end procedures, maintaining robust college finances and ensuring that the college financial objectives are achieved
  • Work with the management accounting team to ensure the development of the Group budget, subsequent associated forecasts including cashflow, and both internal and external reporting requirements
  • Have oversight of all financial accounting matters, including purchase, sales and nominal ledger transactions and statutory accounts and audit, across all areas of Group business including Campus and Prison Services
  • Provide accurate and timely group management information and advice that supports effective decision making by the Senior Leadership Team, leaders, and governors, including management accounts, budgets and year-end financial statements
  • Act as a lead link for financial projects, including capital projects, and ensure compliance through the utilisation of key tools and processes
  • To ensure all external returns are submitted in a timely manner
  • Work closely, particularly with non-financial staff, in interpreting key financial and non-financial data
  • Contribute with the development of processes and procedures for Campus and Prison Services, working with the Business Intelligence Team to design, build and test appropriate reporting solutions
  • Support with year-end audit, ensuring that all appropriate accounting entries are in place, that audit papers are ready prior to audit, close liaison with the college's internal and external auditors and preparation of all year-end papers and financial statements for Corporation approval
  • Oversee the maintenance of the fixed asset register including capitalisation, depreciation, and disposal of assets.
  • Support the Finance Director to lead and manage the management accounting team ensuring effective recruitment, structure, professional development, and performance management in line with college policies and values
  • In close liaison with the Finance Director, Group Director: Funding, Data and Exams and senior colleagues, be involved in and support curriculum planning, resource planning and the development of pay budgets
  • Take delegated decisions within the policy and budgetary framework, including authorising expenditure in line with budgets and the College's Financial Regulations
