The role

To ensure the quality of all raw materials, final product, and packaging by the routine auditing of product and ingredient samples and manufacturing processes.

Key accountabilities

  • Conduct Product Positive release as per customer requirements and complete system documentation.
  • Perform Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) audits, complete GMP schedules, and maintain system records.
  • Set up and participate in Quality Assurance Standards (QAS) panels.
  • Prepare metal detector and checkweigher calibration packs, including certified test pieces, reference packets, and lightweight packets.
  • Troubleshoot and adjust checkweighers and metal detectors, input new recipes, and report persistent faults to engineering.
  • Prepare product colour standards and conduct checks on rejected packets by metal detectors.
  • Perform spot checks on date codes and process control sheets, reporting any discrepancies to the Lead Technician.
  • Verify finished product weights for legal compliance and place non-conforming products on QA Hold.
  • Assess products on hold or recalled, complete relevant paperwork, and conduct internal, CCP, and metal detector audits.
  • Test samples of plasters and earplugs through metal detectors, maintain records, and calibrate equipment such as moisture machines and colour meters. • Respond to production call-outs, manage documentation, and collect product samples for testing.
  • Inspect delivery vehicles for cleanliness and infestation, ensuring raw material deliveries meet specifications and traceability requirements.
  • Complete goods-in documentation, file certificates of analysis, and follow up on missing documents from suppliers.
  • Determine testing levels for raw materials using the Raw Material Supplier & Spec Tracker.
  • Conduct chill checks and assess packaging using visual checks and testing equipment. • Provide new packaging samples for Specification Technologist sign-off and update Packaging Reference folders.
  • Maintain and distribute the Monthly Non-conformance summary spreadsheet and update QAS data on the system.

Skills & experience

  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft word and excel
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • A QA background knowledge of food manufacturing would be advantageous
