Community Ranger

Posted by National Trust.

Summary

Working in some of the nation's most stunning places and spaces, come rain or shine, your love of the outdoors will inspire others as you strive to ensure that landscapes are beautifully presented and continue to take our visitors' breath away. You will be working with the local community and key partners to improve the meadows for both people and nature.

In this role, you'll work some weekends, bank holiday and evenings.

Interviews are planned for the 27th of August.

What it's like to work here

Meandering out from the heart of the City of Bath World Heritage site, the route through Bathampton Meadows is now in the care of the National Trust and safeguarded from future development.

Based at Bathampton Meadows as part of the Bath Skyline countryside property, you will be delivering the groundwork to create an urban "green corridor" along the river Avon to the east of Bath, linking the historic city centre to the surrounding countryside and the people who live there. The site is within Bath, giving you the option for active transport along the canal path.

You'll be part of a small team of rangers within Bath, alongside working out of the office and with the gardeners at Prior Park. There is a friendly and supportive network within our team culture and personal development is always encouraged. Our team is a mix of flexible workers, with different work patterns and potential for working from home as part of your week.

What you'll be doing

You'll make sure that, at every twist and turn of these fantastic landscapes, we're delivering outstanding outdoors experiences and excellent conservation work. You'll share our common goal with customers and build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the National Trust. So, whether you're maintaining our green spaces or leading guided walks, through to delivering a wide range of engaging visitor experiences, no two days will be the same.

With your endless passion for our work, you'll help with the protection and care of habitats, wildlife, property and machinery, and your enthusiasm will inspire others to love this beautiful place as much as you do. Working closely with the Bath Skyline Ranger team and the Project Manager, you will be delivering experiences with volunteers, communities, partners and local stakeholders.

You will be a part of an ongoing community engagement programme to develop the future of the meadows, by working closely with local communities, partner organisations and internal experts to better understand what the meadows mean to people, how they're being used and what their potential is. At the heart of this is our intention to improve the land to better support nature habitats and access.

You'll also share and promote the work that we do, ensuring special places like these are both protected and enjoyed by everyone for ever. This will see you responding to queries and explaining the value of the work being undertaken. After all, your commitment and dedication could turn a visitor into a lifelong supporter for the Trust.

You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all of the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what's possible in this role.

  • ability to work well as part of a disparate team
  • confidence in building relationships and working with a wide variety of people
