This school is part of a group of over 15 SEN schools/colleges and supported living across the UK. They are the sixth-largest provider of specialist educational services in the country, supporting over 900 children and young people, and employing over 1,000 staff.

Position: SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Caterham, Surrey

Hourly Rate: £12.31 - £13.16 per hour Salary: Actual salary £21,995.67 - £23,514.45 dependant on experience and qualifications Plus £1000 Welcome bonus *

Hours: 40 hours per week, 8.30am-4.30pm, flexibility within these hours is essential and you are required to work till 5pm one day a week for staff training and meetings. Term time only.

This Education Centre is currently looking to recruit an SEN Teaching Assistant. It is a 30-place secondary/post 16 learning centre supporting young people aged 11 - 16 who have difficulties with communication and social interaction, typically associated with Asperger's Syndrome and Autism, and challenging behaviour.

Your Qualifications/Experience/Skills:

  • GCSE Maths and English qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent is essential.
  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification (desirable but not essential)
  • Experience of working in a special school environment is highly desirable.
  • Team TEACH Training- desirable

Key Duties:

  • To establish a warm, caring and supportive relationship with pupils in order to support them feeling safe and enabling them to enjoy and learn during their time at the School.
  • To promote and encourage independence and personal development
  • Support the Class Teacher in all areas of the day to day running of the class
  • To respond to the varying and changing needs of the school and adapt to any task presented to achieve the smooth running of the school. Some physical intervention may be needed upon occasion, full training on this will be provided.
  • To promote pupils' cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, physical development and spiritual well-being.
