Health & Safety Officer

Insight Employment are seeking a Health & Safety Officer to work for a food client of ours based in Buckingham.

The Role: -

As a Health & Safety Officer you will be reporting to the CEO,you will be entrusted to lead parts of the business right from the start with responsibility for key results and involve managing hard and soft services, site and facilities maintenance, HSE group and improvement projects for the site.

Key Responsibilities: -

  • To ensure the company is at all times compliant with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and subsequent legislation and has in place and follows a compliant Health and Safety management system.
  • To monitor, evaluate and review health and safety policy and practice and to develop and implement new policy and procedure documents as required.
  • To work with department managers and staff to ensure all possible risk assessments are prepared and reviewed as necessary in a consistent and effective manner.
  • To support all department managers to maintain safe systems of work and implement best practice, including providing specialist advice, coaching and practical support as needed.
  • To consult employees on health and safety issues and to support and develop the role of the company's health and safety committee (HSC), including arranging and attending meetings. Co-ordinate the work of the HSC ensuring it meets regularly, identifies and reviews all relevant Health & Safety matters, minutes are taken, and actions followed through.
  • To arrange for appropriate Health & Safety training.
  • To identify potential hazards, determining ways to reduce risk, planning safe working procedures and making necessary changes.
  • To ensure that accidents and near misses are properly recorded, communicated to relevant authorities/managers, investigated, lessons learned and any changes to processes and procedures implemented to prevent reoccurrences.
  • To ensure fire safety arrangements and fire risk assessments at the client's site including Colindale and Hayes are satisfactory and that offices fire/CCTV burglar alarms and access control systems are properly maintained and that the staff understand how to operate them. Ensure fire arrangements are maintained in good order and fire drills are carried out on all premises.
  • To advice the Director and management team on the implications of current and emerging health, safety and welfare legislation, including evaluating options, making recommendations and generating action plans to ensure compliance across the organisation.
  • Checking that agreed work by staff or contractors has been completed satisfactorily and following up on any deficiencies.
  • Keeping up to date with legislations, developments within the profession.
  • Responsible for building and grounds maintenance works.
  • Responsible for site utilities and activities.
  • Ensure that work carried out by staff or contractors has been completed satisfactorily and following up on any deficiencies.

Requirements: -

  • Must have previously worked in a food environment.
  • Professional qualification in Health and Safety (IOSH, NEBOSH).
  • Experience of working within a H&S (UK 1 year) and/or Facilities team.
  • Commitment to a safety-aware culture and drive to implement new processes as appropriate.
  • Experience of auditing, inspecting and surveying to identify problems and defects.
  • Experience in managing the health, safety and welfare of staff and contractors working in a complex, multi-site environment.
  • Experience working on fire safety, including fire risk assessments.

Day Shift: -

Mon - Fri

Salary: -

35k-45k per annum per depending on experience.
