Job Title: Risk Analytics Manager

Location: London Hybrid 2-3 days per week in London

Duration: 6 months with possible extension

Rate: Market rates via an approved umbrella company

The role is located in Group Risk and has global reach through the scope of credit risk models provided to the business. The jobholder is required to work in an environment of significant ambiguity, dealing with major issues for which there is no clear solution whilst still being able to give meaningful input. The jobholder is expected to demonstrate a high level of technical expertise, good communication skills and ability to work in a team.

Principal Accountabilities:

Key activities and decision making areas

Impact on the Business

  • Lead the build, enhancement and deployment of wholesale credit risk models, as directed, to allocate RWA, CRR, EAD, LGD, or Economic Capital / provisioning measures and to support businesses.
  • Assist in the preparation of MI, portfolio analysis and impact analysis
  • Help identifying areas which require data remediation and proactively engage with internal stakeholder to address them.

Typical KPI's and targets:

  • Assist with development of new wholesale credit risk scorecards (PD, LGD, EAD) for global portfolios
  • Support or drive enhancement of existing credit risk scorecards in order to improve their performance or their applicability to other risk measurement requirements
  • Support deployment and maintenance of credit risk models on existing risk systems
  • Support MMP and independent review process
  • Drive data improvement initiatives to support model development

Customers / Stakeholders:

  • Support business model users by providing training, conducting user forums, obtaining feedback.
  • Liaise with Global RRA members as well as with business and risk stakeholders to share and acquire analytics expertise.
  • Communicate with regulators in order to explain the compliance of HSBC risk rating system with IRB requirements
  • Support communication with Change Delivery and IT functions

Typical KPI's and targets :

  • Lead and participate to model usage forums and business training initiatives.
  • Actively participate, as required, to governance committees (MMP, MPRF, Implementation SC) and RRA Technical panels
  • Support work to meet regulatory requests
  • Liaise with Risk Systems and IT to support model deployment

Leadership & Teamwork:

  • Provide guidance and support to model users
  • Provide training and lead/participate to technical workshops

Typical KPI's and targets:

  • Work as directed as part as model development teams, ensuring good communication and efficient allocation of tasks is maintained
  • Participate in and contribute to technical workshops
  • Run or participate to technical training sessions for other RRA members

Operational Effectiveness & Control:

  • Identify opportunities for process, data and system improvements to support development of robust and business-relevant risk metrics
  • Detect and investigate reasons for model ineffectiveness and model misuse

Typical KPI's and targets:

  • Gain a good understanding of all the available data sources (internal and external), internal processes and systems
  • Lead and participate to model usage forums
  • Work efficiently, respecting the agreed time schedule and appropriately escalating any project delays
  • Write clear documentation
  • Prepare effective presentations and deliver clear communication

The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.

This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring.

Also by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications:

  • University degree in a quantitative or technical field
  • Deep understanding of statistics and familiarity with sophisticated tools for numerical analysis
  • Strong data management and system deployment skills
  • Excellent knowledge of wholesale credit process and products
  • Significant relevant working experience in a bank, rating agency, consultancy or advisory firm
  • Ability to prepare clear and effective presentations, trainings and workshops
  • Open personality and effective communicator, ability and flexibility to work in an international team
  • Ability to write clear and understandable documents
  • Ability drive delivery of projects within the agreed time scale, in liaison with all relevant stakeholders: team colleagues, model owners, credit, business, IT, senior management and regulators.
  • Experience with SAS or Python or both.
