Safety Compliance Manager

Hays is working exclusively with BOC, who are well-known within the UK and Ireland as they are the largest provider of industrial, welding and specialist gases. The role will lead their safety strategy across the region, focusing on safety compliance, performance and behaviour. They have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Safety Compliance Manager on a permanent basis who will report to the Director of SHEQ.

Your new role
In your new role you will:

  • Develop a robust safety improvement strategy, aligned to both legislative and regulatory requirements, to achieve our goals and objectives.
  • In addition, you will lead the delivery of our SHEQ training standards to support and drive employee competence, enabling an effective assessment and monitoring process in line with our duty of care and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborating with the wider team, you will be responsible for implementing effective risk management and prevention of incidents.
  • Furthermore, you will lead the way in providing safety leadership to line managers and the wider SHEQ team, including the local SHEQ Managers, to ensure they have the knowledge, training and skills to deliver best practice on site.
  • You will have the great opportunity to drive improvements in our safety performance, ensuring learnings are captured, and best practice is shared across the region.
  • This role works heavily with people to understand behaviours around safety; therefore, you will provide human factors and behavioural safety expertise, influencing the organisation to deliver the best safety behaviour.

And lastly, you will take the role of safety technical authority, monitoring changes in safety legislation, management of our safety standards and act as the communication lead to the business for safety directives and safety alerts.

What you'll need to succeed

  • You have a recognised health, safety and environmental qualification with working experience of leading safety improvements.
  • In addition, you have circa five years' experience in an operational or SHEQ environment, within a major accident hazard industry would be an advantage.
  • Experience working under or managing an effective SHEQ management system would be beneficial, but is not essential. However, we would like a willingness to learn the system we use.
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach and the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Furthermore, you are confident in providing detailed guidance of key safety laws and regulations.
  • You have a high level of integrity and can understand problems and take an independent view when providing advice.
  • And lastly, you use an analytical mindset to solve problems and have a passion for driving improvements.
