What is the purpose of the Electrical Engineer Project Manager?

To oversee and manage the electrical engineering aspects of renewable energy projects from inception to completion. This includes leading high and low voltage installation, ensuring the efficient and compliant operation of electrical systems, and driving continuous improvement across all sites. The role is pivotal in ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance. Additionally, the position plays a key role in maintaining and enhancing site operations through proactive maintenance, fault management, and performance analysis, all while ensuring regulatory compliance and fostering collaboration among stakeholders.

What are the responsibilities of the

Electrical Engineer Project Manager?

  • High and Low Voltage Installation: Lead and participate in the installation of high and low voltage systems across all assigned projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and coordinating with team members for successful project delivery.
  • Maintenance Management: Execute both planned and reactive maintenance activities across all sites, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance of electrical systems. Schedule regular maintenance checks, troubleshoot issues as they arise, and ensure all maintenance work complies with safety regulations.
  • Electrical Design & Specification: Develop and review high and low voltage electrical designs, ensuring they meet project specifications and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with subcontracted designers on high voltage design tasks, ensuring technical soundness, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with project goals.
  • Site Performance Analysis: Conduct thorough analyses of site performance data to identify opportunities for operational improvements. Implement strategies to enhance efficiency, reliability, and overall site performance, contributing to the continuous improvement of renewable energy assets.
  • Fault Management: Proactively identify, record, and address faults in electrical systems. Employ a problem-solving approach to ensure timely resolution of issues, minimizing impact on site operations, and implementing preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
  • Design and Reporting: Prepare detailed electrical designs and project reports, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with industry standards. Present these reports to stakeholders, providing insights and recommendations based on technical analysis and project progress.
  • Asset Management Monitoring: Oversee the monitoring of all managed renewable energy sites, ensuring continuous operation and compliance with performance standards. Participate in a rotational monitoring schedule, including providing weekend cover as required, to ensure consistent management of assets.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with project stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, and internal teams, to ensure clear communication and alignment on project objectives. Provide technical expertise and guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all electrical work complies with relevant industry regulations and standards, including health and safety requirements. Stay up to date with changes in legislation and implement necessary adjustments to project plans and operations.
  • Project Management: Lead and manage electrical engineering projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

What skills and qualifications will you need as the Electrical Engineer Project Manager?

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Technical Certifications:

  • City and Guilds 2391 or equivalent.

  • Level 3 Technical and Vocational Qualification or Level 3 Diploma.

  • BS7671 18th Edition (including amendment 2 preferred).

  • High Voltage Experience: Proven experience with high voltage systems, including design, installation, and maintenance.

  • Industry Experience: Minimum of 5 years working within the renewables industry, with a focus on high voltage projects.

  • Methodical Approach: Strong attention to detail with a methodical, accurate, and process-focused approach to work.

  • Communication & Organizational Skills: Excellent communication and organizational abilities, with a focus on clarity and efficiency in both verbal and written communications.

  • Computer Literacy: Proficient in using computer software and tools relevant to electrical engineering and project management.

  • Driving License & Flexibility: Must hold a valid driving license and be willing to travel throughout the UK, including evenings and weekends, to meet project demands.

Desired Skills:

  • PV Installation & Maintenance: Experience in photovoltaic (PV) installation and maintenance, as well as onshore wind projects.
  • CAD Experience: Proficiency in using CAD software for electrical design work.
  • Communication Systems: Experience in communications setup and configuration within electrical systems.
  • HV Authorised Person / Switching Course: Completion of an HV Authorised Person or Switching Course is highly desirable.
  • 18th Edition Amendment 2: Familiarity with the latest amendment to the BS7671 18th Edition is preferred.
