MLK Search is extremely excited to be exclusively assigned to support this ‘Outstanding' Independent Special School in west London who are seeking to appoint a confident, creative, and passionate Assistant Headteacher for January to lead on Curriculum and Teaching and Learning across their Primary and Secondary provisions.

This is an inclusive co-educational provision for children with Autism aged between 5 and 16 years, and split across two sites in West London. It is truly unique, with a student-centred approach, and professional development and wellbeing of staff at the very forefront of eveything they do. Not often do you come across such a passionate Senior Leadership Team who live and breathe the core values of the school ech and every day.

Whilst underpinned by ABA methodology, the school is continuously developing it's offering to continue providing the most outstanding education and outcomes for its students and the teams around them. Each pupil receives an individually devised programme based on a pupil centred, multi professional approach to learning, aimed at increasing communication and independence.

This is a rare opportunity for a curriculum and teaching specialist senior teacher / middle leader with experience in education for children and young people with Autism to join an outstanding organisation, and in collaboration with an exceptional CEO and Headteacher, restructure and embed and exciting new curriculum offering.

Main Purpose

As the Assistant Headteacher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the academic and professional culture. Working closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, you will provide strategic leadership in key areas including:

  • Teaching and Learning: Enhancing the quality and consistency of teaching practices across the schools.
  • Professional Learning for Teachers: Overseeing staff development, including trainee teachers and early career teachers, and managing ongoing CPD.
  • Pupil Progress and Outcomes: Leading the use of data-driven strategies to ensure all pupils achieve their full potential, while managing assessment and examination processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and Learning: Ensure high standards of teaching and learning are maintained through quality assurance and mentoring staff. Lead curriculum development and innovation to create a dynamic learning environment.
  • Professional Development: Develop and lead the CPD programme for teaching staff, ensuring high-quality professional learning opportunities. Manage the induction and progress of ITT and ECT staff.
  • Leadership: Line manage teaching staff, contribute to recruitment, and foster a culture of collaboration and high expectations among staff and students.

Person Requirements

The successful applicant will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK
  • Additional qualifications related to SEN and/or school leadership would be highly desirable
  • Successful teaching and/or leadership experience within a similar setting/environment
  • Excellent knowledge of the UK National Curriculum and relevant accreditations related to SEN/Autism
  • Successful line management experience including training and development of teaching staff
  • Strong undertsanding of Ofsted expectations and the Independent Schools Standards would also be highly desirable
