Deputy Manager

Job Purpose

The Deputy Manager will supervise frontline, operational, technical, and professional staff to meet service standards outlined in the service plan within the Children's Families and Cultural Services (Social Care). This role will involve deputizing for the Registered Manager in their absence, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to children and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervision: Deputise for the homes Registered Manager in their absence and ensure effective supervision of staff to secure high levels of performance.
  • Performance Management: Deliver targets set in the service and team plans, improving staff performance through ongoing communication and support.
  • Service Improvement: Resolve service delivery issues using available resources and enhance customer satisfaction levels.
  • Professional Conduct: Act as a professional exemplar, demonstrating a 'can-do' attitude in all responsibilities.
  • Collaboration: Build positive relationships with staff, parents, carers, colleagues, and other agencies.
  • Compliance: Ensure the home meets the requirements of The Children's Home Regulations 2015 and the Social Care Common Inspection Framework (SCCIF).
  • On-Call Duty: Participate in the on-call system for managers as required.
  • Complaints Management: Manage and contribute to the Complaints and Representations Procedures, including investigating complaints as necessary.

Person Specification Education, Knowledge, and Skills

  • Must have either CSS, CQSW, DipSW, BA/SW, or NVQ Social Care Level 4 and NVQ Level 4 in management, or Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care and Children and Young People's Services.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and a comprehensive understanding of child development, safeguarding policies, and relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge of effective people management, customer service principles, budget management, and risk management.

Leadership and Management Skills

  • Demonstrate the ability to drive the team toward key outcomes and provide a positive example by working efficiently.
  • Empower staff to develop ideas for increasing efficiency and establish transparent communication with all stakeholders.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience within the service area.
  • Experience in planning and organizing teamwork, managing challenging behaviors, and working with children or adults with physical and/or learning disabilities.
  • Experience in delivering formal supervision and development of staff.
