Legal Counsel

Posted by Robert Walters.

Our client is an established leader in the LegalTech industry with a presence in multiple countries. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an In-House Counsel to lead their legal and compliance functions for UK and Ireland operations. This role offers the opportunity to work within a fast-paced technology business, providing strategic legal advice, managing disputes, and ensuring adherence to GDPR and data protection regulations.

Their office is based in South West London, with hybrid work arrangements (or remote work as a possibility). This role will work closely with Australia and part of a global team, therefore some flexibility will be required with working hours.

Reporting to the General Counsel (based internationally), key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the company (and associated companies in the UK and Ireland) meets all legal requirements, focusing on SaaS licensing, GDPR, IP, and contract management.
  • Review, draft, negotiate, and advise on a wide variety of commercial agreements and contracts on SaaS-based models.
  • Develop, review, draft and/or amend a range of corporate policies and documents.
  • Oversee risk and vendor management, and provide advice on intellectual property rights.
  • Implement a legal compliance program to ensure business adherence to GDPR and data protection regulations.
  • Advise and assist with dispute resolution, internally and externally.
  • Manage the relationship between all external legal advisors.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes:

  • UK-qualified lawyer with at least 4+ PQE, with relevant in-house experience (however all candidates will be considered on merit).
  • Excellent review and legal drafting skills, with demonstrated competency in commercial contracts.
  • Good knowledge of SaaS licensing, Intellectual Property, and GDPR will be required.
  • Ability to negotiate, provide clear advice, and communicate at all levels of the business.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and ability to work autonomously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of company secretarial or corporate work will be beneficial but not essential.
