  • Job Type: Part-time (18.75 hours per week), Fixed-term (2.5 years)

We are excited to offer a unique opportunity for a Project Engagement Lead to join our collaborative research project, "Just transformation of food-farming systems: reconciling net zero and other land-use ambitions" (JUSTLANZ). This role is crucial in engaging and mobilising farmers and rural communities towards a just transformation of UK food-farming systems that benefit nature and promote sustainable management.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Lead the JUSTLANZ engagement and mobilisation work with farmers in the Lough Erne landscape.
  • Develop and nurture relationships of trust with the food-farming community, spending substantial time in the field.
  • Organise and facilitate participatory workshops and focus groups to explore issues, future visions, and develop interventions and solutions.
  • Collaborate with natural and social science researchers to support the co-designed research programme.
  • Investigate the impacts of different landscape scenarios on greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity, and food production.
  • Support farming community mobilisation and agency to develop just transformative pathways, including innovative practice and policy intervention solutions.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in community engagement or mobilisation, particularly in rural or farming communities.
  • Proficiency in participatory, inclusive facilitation methods and processes.
  • Excellent time management and planning skills, with the ability to manage tight deadlines and competing demands.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups.
  • Experience in influencing and negotiating with various sectors to deliver environmental benefits.
  • Ability to work well individually, as part of a team, and in partnership with external organisations.
  • Access to remote locations not accessible by public transport.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications:

  • Degree level qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience working with academic researchers in participatory and transdisciplinary research.
  • Ability to translate research findings into policy briefings.
  • Familiarity with UK, NI, Welsh land management, farming contexts, and environmental policies.
