Position : Deputy Lab Manager

The Role

  • To act as the supervisor for the Analytical Chemistry team and the Deputy for the Lab Manager. To perform chemical and radiochemical analyses and supporting efficient operations in the laboratories with an extended experience and knowledge of analytical techniques and instrumentation.
  • To provide management with information to support bidding and project work and to lead on timely delivery regarding forward planning.
  • To ensure that all labs are equipped to deliver and ensure that all consumables are at always required levels.
  • Ensure instrument performance checks have been completed.
  • Data interpretation & Data entry into analysis spreadsheet for checking
  • Check analysis spreadsheet/lab notebooks prepared by others.
  • Ensure QA checks are carried out and recorded.
  • Ensure laboratory notebooks are maintained up to date.
  • Identify, implement, and comply with applicable security, safety, health, environmental, quality, company procedures / policy, legislative and regulatory requirements.

The Person

Essential skills & qualification

  • Degree or equivalent in Chemistry.
  • First line management or supervision experience, minimum of 5 years' Laboratory experience
  • Proficient in Excel and Word.
  • Good interpersonal, written and verbal skills with good presentation skills.
  • Budget management

Desirable Skills

  • Professional membership or accreditation in a science discipline or working towards it
  • Knowledge of the waste industry
  • Working to the requirements of BS EN ISO/IEC 17025
