SEN Teaching Assistant - ASD

Hays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a specialist SEND school in Chester that supports pupils between the ages of 2 - 19 with a wide range of SEN including ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorders) and moderate to complex LD (learning difficulties) as they are looking to recruit a BSL trained teaching assistant for a long-term temporary contact. This is a long-term full-time contract starting from September.

Your new role
In your new role as a teaching assistant in this school, you will be based in the Year 10 class supporting a pupil diagnosed ASD on a 1:1 basis. You will be the pupils' main point of contact throughout the school day, supporting them during lessons, break, and lunch times. Your main focus will be on speech and language as this pupil is non-verbal, they are BSL fluent, so you will be required to translate for them throughout the school day as well as utilise the sensory room to de-stimulate. You will ensure that all learning material is accessible and inclusive for them and actively encourage them to take part in lessons. As they are on an EHCP you will ensure that all requirements are met.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered in your application you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as a minimum of 40 days reference experience supporting children with SEN in the last 2 years, as well as:

  • Experience working with ASD
  • BSL qualification (Level 1 minimum)
