A private estate in West Berkshire is seeking a skilled and proactive live-in maintenance person to take responsibility for the ongoing upkeep and efficient operation of the property. This is a full-time, permanent role offering a long-term opportunity for a hands-on professional with strong technical expertise and a pride in delivering high standards. Accommodation is provided in a three-bedroom, semi-detached house with its own garden. Partners are welcome, and pets will be considered depending on the specifics.
The successful candidate will have at least five years of experience in a similar maintenance role, ideally within a private household or estate environment. Experience working with boilers, large industrial pumps, and radiator systems is essential. A Gas Safe qualification would be highly advantageous, as the role involves maintaining and signing off on heating systems. The candidate should be confident in troubleshooting and performing general repairs across the property and be able to manage external contractors and service providers when needed.
In addition to technical responsibilities, the role involves general maintenance duties such as minor decorating, painting, and touch-ups, so a background in decorating would be beneficial. The ideal person will be physically fit, active, and take a hands-on approach to their work, demonstrating care and attention to detail in all aspects of estate maintenance. They should take pride in their work, be self-motivated, and have the ability to work independently while managing time effectively.
This is a Monday to Friday position, but the candidate must be flexible to respond to any maintenance issues that arise over the weekend, particularly when the principals are in residence. A full, clean UK driving licence is required.
DUTIES TO INCLUDE:
- Maintain and manage heating systems, boilers, and industrial pumps
- Troubleshoot and carry out repairs to plumbing, electrical systems, and radiators
- Conduct regular inspections to identify issues and perform preventative maintenance
- Manage and oversee contractors and service providers when required
- Perform general maintenance duties and touch-ups across the property
- Ensure all equipment and systems are functioning efficiently and safely
- Maintain exterior spaces in collaboration with other estate staff
- Be available for emergency call-outs and maintenance needs on weekends
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar hands-on maintenance role
- Gas Safe registered and experience working with boilers and heating systems are essential
- Skilled with large pumps, radiator systems, and general household systems
- Strong DIY and decorating skills; ability to carry out minor repairs independently
- Physically fit and able to carry out manual tasks across the estate
- Practical, reliable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude
- Willing to commit to the role long term and take ownership of the property's upkeep
- Right to live and work in the UK
- Full clean UK driving licence required
