The Role

If yes, then United Utilities (UU) have an exciting opportunities for you to lead our Engineering Innovation programme team in North West England, UK.

As Programme Manager, you will manager a portfolio of engineering innovation projects, steering the commercial and technical aspects that are crucial for the advancement of Capital Delivery, Engineering, and Commercial sectors (CEC). By fostering innovation efficiency, you will ensuring that initial ideas are adopted and innovation is managed effectively throughout the project/programme lifecycle. Collaborating closely with the Chief Engineer, you will shape and define the overarching innovation strategy, a task that requires both vision and precision.

Leading diverse project teams, which include both internal members and external partners, is key to delivering the programme with the desired outcomes in terms of time, cost, and quality. Moreover, adept stakeholder management, especially with pivotal funding bodies and partners, is essential for the programme's success. This role is not just about managing projects; it's about leading the charge in innovation and setting the stage for future advancements that will benefit the organization and the industry at large.

In-person site attendance in Lingley Mere, Warrington is required three days per week to promote the benefits of face-to-face collaboration, alongside some travel to other sites in the North West and flexible hours to support work-life balance. Initially, you may be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourselves with the site, the team, and your role.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Leading dynamic teams to pioneer the Engineering Innovation programme, ensuring cross-disciplinary collaboration and successful delivery of cutting-edge projects.
  • Steering complex innovation projects with a programme of up to £80 million, fostering a culture of safety and excellence in Health and Safety performance
  • Mentoring project professionals to achieve top-tier results, maintaining accountability from inception to completion.
  • Cultivating influential relationships with senior leaders to align innovation services with client expectations and strategic business goals.
  • Managing risks and resources adeptly, ensuring compliance with governance and nurturing a productive relationship with the Supply Chain.

Skills and Experience:

To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Experience of leading and managing a project management team delivering complex portfolio projects
  • Demonstrable stakeholder management skills with experience in bid management and securing leveraged funding
  • Any of the following: APM PMQ/MSP/PRINCE2, MAPM ChPP or RPP, relevant Post-Graduate qualification i.e. MSc (Project Management), PLP or equivalent skills, knowledge and experience
  • Hold a current UK/EU driving licence
