We have an exciting opportunity for a

Capital Reporting Financial Accountant

to join our Fixed assets team, responsible for Thames Waters' £20bn Fixed and Intangible Asset Register.

The role will be key in the provision of advice, statutory accounting, controls enforcement, analysis, and ad-hoc projects to support across central finance.

This is a demanding but extremely varied opportunity in a large organisation, that will give you the opportunity to make a real impact on the way we operate as a business and putting you in regular contact with some of our most senior stakeholders. You will drive both our external financial reporting of Fixed assets and the relationship between Finance and the wider business.

You will enjoy a varied role with the opportunity to gain experience in Fixed assets with additional regulatory and statutory reporting elements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background, the ability to build robust relationships with a variety of key stakeholders and have experience working with financial systems.

What you will be doing as Capital Reporting Financial Accountant?

  • Responsibility for the financial reporting of the Fixed Asset Register and related month end close process: performing analysis, enforcing controls compliance, reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Budgeting and forecasting depreciation.
  • Lead the year end close process, regulatory accounting, and external audit by producing capex lead schedules, providing audit deliverables, and answering queries as they arise.
  • Ad-hoc projects such as systems improvements, reporting enhancements, controls improvement, financial analysis, and business planning.
  • Developing relationships and work collaboratively across Finance and the wider business to provide accounting, regulatory and systems advice.

What should you bring to the role?

  • CIMA / ACCA / ACA (or equivalent) accountancy qualification.
  • Strong background in IFRS accounting principles and practices, particularly in capital intensive businesses.
  • Experience in SAP ERP and HFM accounting software (desirable), and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • A positive, results driven mind-set and strong communication skills.
  • Experience of working in a utilities organisation. (desirable but not required)
