Chemical Process Engineer

The role is focused on supporting and developing the current manufacturing processes and equipment to support our ongoing developments in fuel cells technology. This role will also support the transfer of technical information, development, installation and commissioning of new processes and equipment internally and at customer sites. There will also be a requirement to assist in day-to-day manufacturing to support innovation of our product.

The position will suit an experienced manufacturing/process engineer, ideally with a chemical understanding/education, very comfortable in using the modern manufacturing toolbox, such as the methodologies of 6s, Lean manufacturing and root cause analysis. You should also be a strong problem solver, able to experiment effectively, analyse and draw conclusions from data and put observations into context. Ideally a good knowledge of ink formulations, dispersions, and relevant analytical techniques.

Key Accountabilities:

o Be a key contact in technology transfer to support our licensees

o Provide technical support and training of partner manufacturing personnel

o Working with stakeholders to develop and support delivery of volume manufacturing solutions

o Provide support for manufacturing operations internally at UK sites

o Develop current manufacturing processes and problem resolution

o Ensure equipment performs within the expected ranges of performance

o Support new product introduction programs

o Identify opportunities for improvement in all aspects of inks production

o Develop and implement advanced quality control processes to extend understanding of current formulations

o Complete validation requirements to complete process changes under QMS

?Knowledge and skills required for the role:

Essential

o MSc/BEng/Meng or PhD in Chemical/Process Engineering or Chemistry with manufacturing experience

o Hands-on problem-solving methodology applied to process engineering and chemical processes

o Ideally industrial process expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Ink formulation
- Scale up of chemical processes from lab/pilot to industrial
- Milling techniques (ball-milling, vibro-milling, triple roll milling, others)
- Ceramics processing

o 6s/Lean trained and daily user of these techniques (Issue resolution/Design of experiment/Process capability)

o Experience with relevant characterisation techniques (rheology, particle size analysis, XRD, SEM etc)

o A clear communicator at all levels with the ability to challenge and influence cross-functionality

o Ability to think creatively and pursue opportunities for innovation

o Advanced MS Office skills and preferably in statistical analysis software

o Willing to travel abroad when required
