Finance Director

Cedar are delighted to be recruiting a Finance Director for a leading Manchester-based transport business with revenues of c. £100m. Part of a larger organisation, this business is both growing & acquisitive and this is a new role to provide both support & leadership to support recent acquisitions. As such. this is a very visible role that will offer real autonomy to the postholder and allow them to support further expansion.

Reporting to the Group Finance Director. the Finance Director will lead a team of 7 staff (across finance & procurement), be a key part of the Senior Management Team and be responsible for driving financial health & performance. Key duties will include:

  • Own the overall financial management of the Manchester business; measure, analyse and lead on all financial performance & strategy metrics;
  • Develop KPIs to promote a greater understanding of the operational and financial performance of the business; e.g. performance / flash / KPI reports, forecasts, balanced scorecards etc.
  • Lead the preparation of monthly management reporting and annual statutory financial statements for the business unit, completing all Companies House filings on a timely basis.
  • Co-ordinate / prepare annual budgets & forecasts to support the delivery of the Business Plan.
  • Implement, review, manage and improve financial management measures and controls.
  • Provide financial input into tenders and business proposals; support contract negotiation.
  • Partner with Service Delivery & Engineering to improve business performance and drive efficiencies.
  • Manage and develop a team of 7 staff and contribute to a wide range of projects.

The successful candidate for the position of Finance Director will:

  • Be a fully qualified accountant with significant PQE and experience of working with senior internal & external stakeholders.
  • Have strong all-round finance skills (experience in IFRIC 12 being an advantage here).
  • Demonstrate knowledge around managing major contracts and leading / supporting commercial negotiations.
  • Enjoy working with finance & non-finance people at all levels and driving a positive work culture.
  • Be a team player who is willing to develop others to increase team and individual performance.
