Senior Internal Communications Manager

Summary

We're looking for an experienced and accomplished senior internal communications professional who can deliver dynamic communication approaches on a range of strategic initiatives to support the National Trust cause of Nature, Beauty and History For Everyone, For Ever. You'll also be an influential voice for staff and volunteer communication with senior stakeholders across the Trust.

This is a fixed-term role for a period of nine months.

What it's like to work here

While many of our team are based around our national offices in Swindon and spend time working there, we're a national network who do much of our teamwork virtually and connect with people all over the Trust.

Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Head of Internal Communications, you'll shape our approach and lead delivery of internal communications on major strategic programmes including climate action and nature restoration. You'll be a leader within our internal communications professional community and we anticipate you'll have line management responsibilities.

Your stakeholders will include the Trust Executive team, central and regional directors and assistant directors/national heads of profession. You'll need to work confidently and efficiently to offer support, influence, challenge when needed and provide assurance of first-class internal communications delivery.

  • experience of design, execution and evaluation of communication programmes
  • diagnostic & advisory skills with the ability to think creatively and advise on potential communication interventions in a broad range of scenarios, including crisis situations
  • communication skills – verbal, written and presentation to individuals and groups, persuasive and credible influencing skills with the ability to plan and advise
  • Ability to build highly effective and collaborative working relationships with team, peers and senior leaders, with experience of people recruitment, management, development to ensure high levels of performance
  • demonstrable experience of aligning internal communication strategies and interventions with overall organisational strategy with the ability to think strategically and understand the broader organisational issues

Your CV will demonstrate experience in the full range of internal communications skills – stakeholder management, audience insight, strategic understanding, planning, content creation, channel management, and measuring impact.
