Business Intelligence Analyst FTC

We're looking for a passionate and driven Business Intelligence Analyst (12 months fixed term contract for Maternity Cover) to join our Data & Analytics team at Willmott Dixon. Although the IT team are based at our head office in Letchworth Garden City, this role can be done as either a hybrid, or a remote role. Occasional travel to Letchworth and other sites may be required according to business needs.

As a Business Intelligence Analyst you'll play a key role in shaping and leading how we plan and deliver insights and BI solutions to the business, acting as a go-to person within the team and helping us to continuously evolve our Business Intelligence capability.

This is more than just a technical role, you'll be a coach, consultant, and trusted partner, able to build a deep understanding of business priorities and needs. You'll identify opportunities with the greatest impact to enable data-driven decision-making, working closely with stakeholders to translate their needs into impactful insights and actionable reports and empower people to self-serve their data needs.

Main duties will include:

  • Technical Leadership: Lead the design and development of BI solutions, ensuring best practices in solution architecture, performance, usability, and scalability.
  • Solution Delivery: Scope, design, build and support new and existing self-service reports and dashboards to deliver clear, actionable insights. Practise good change management and version control to ensure reliable deployments.
  • Data Governance: Ensure compliance with data governance standards and best practices, safeguarding data quality, integrity, and security.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with industry trends to drive innovation and inform improvements to our tools and processes for business benefit.
  • Mentoring & Coaching: Support peer development by sharing knowledge, promoting best practices, and fostering a culture of learning. Champion development standards and ensure they are understood and adopted across the team.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and deliver appropriate BI solutions.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain positive working-relationships with business stakeholders. Managing conflicting priorities between stakeholders.
  • Customer Engagement: Represent the Data & Analytics team in technical discussions, identifying solutions to customer issues, and promoting the value of data-driven insights. Take ownership of customer escalations and see them through to resolution.

Essential Criteria

  • Strong experience delivering BI solutions, including reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.
  • Expertise in Microsoft BI, data, and analytics tools, with a focus on Power BI and skills in DAX and PowerQuery.
  • Proven track record of leading technical projects and teams, effectively managing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong SQL skills with hands-on experience in relational databases.
  • Excellent time management skills, capable of balancing multiple deliverables and meeting deadlines.
  • Quick to learn and adapt with a growth-mindset.
  • Strong communicator, able to translate complex technical concepts into clear, business-friendly language.
  • Genuine passion for data and analytics, with a constant drive to innovate and stay up to date with industry trends.
  • Exceptional customer-facing skills, ensuring positive engagement and outcomes.
  • Solid problem-solving abilities, with a focus on seeing the big picture and delivering solutions that make an impact. Desirable Criteria * Familiarity with data governance and security best practices.
  • Knowledge and skills in ETL processes, data warehousing, and data modelling.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps Boards and delivering projects within an Agile Scrum framework.
  • Understanding of ITIL practices and the software development lifecycle.
