UU are experiencing a period of growth and transformation, creating several opportunities within our Commercial function to work alongside our largest and most ambitious new projects. As a Commercial Operations Manager you can join us in shaping success across the commercial function where you will drive strategic plans, align goals/objectives, and strive for operational excellence.

In joining us, you will have full exposure to the organisation, our major projects and our largest industry partners. Stakeholder collaboration is vital for this role. You will therefore need to build strong working relationships, manage key internal and external stakeholders effectively and ensure a full business partnering model, whilst maximising value, collaborating with other experts and leading initiatives to tackle challenges unique to our industry, contributing to our success and helping us achieve our objectives.

We champion flexible ways of working. In-person attendance is required three days per week to promote the benefits of face-to-face collaboration, alongside flexibility of hours to support work-life balance. Initially, you may be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourselves with the site, the team, and your role.

  • Strategic Planning: Lead the development and delivery of Commercial strategic plans, tracking overall team performance, benefits and savings, people and cultural matters.
  • Business Partnering: Take charge of the Business Partnering Framework, collaborating with key stakeholders to maximise savings and benefits.
  • Agile Methodology: Implement agile practices across the Commercial team, ensuring balanced resource allocation.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive efficiency opportunities within the Commercial function through stakeholder-focused initiatives.
  • Market Engagement: Regularly connect with the external market, observing trends and bringing back best practices and innovation to enhance the Commercial function

To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Degree-educated with a relevant post-graduate qualification (e.g., CIPS, RICS, MBA, MSC) OR equivalent knowledge/experience.
  • Proven track record in procurement and commercial operations, with a focus on delivering efficiencies through technology-enabled solutions.
  • Experience of leading and implementing continuous improvements across a wide range of stakeholder groups.
  • You thrive in a collaborative work environment and have experience working effectively across teams.
  • You are solution-driven and innovative, always seeking ways to optimise costs while maximising value.
  • Experience with category, sourcing, supplier management good practice and frameworks.
  • Your senior-level stakeholder management skills are well-established, and you excel at building strong business partnerships.
  • You approach challenges with a value-led mindset, finding creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Utilities sector.
  • Experience leading and motivating teams.
  • Full UK driving license

If not already held, successful candidates will be supported to undertake the relevant level of study with the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS). This will be funded by UU.
