Independent Domestic Abuse Advocate - Coventry

Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for an Independent Domestic Abuse Advocate based in based in Coventry.

The purpose of this role is to advocate for victims with agencies who can help in addressing the domestic violence and abuse, for example you will be working with the Police and MARAC, accepting referrals made by them. As well as through the helpline or direct into the IDVA service.

This is a full time 37.5 hours per week (Monday - Friday, 09:00am until 17:00pm), fixed term contract role (until 31st March 2025), offering an hourly rate of £12.82 per hour.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver confidential high-quality outreach support service to victims / survivors experiencing domestic violence and abuse at the highest risk levels living in the community
  • You will recognise women and children's individual needs, providing a short to medium term service to meet those needs.
  • You will also work with women to identify their 'support' needs and incorporate these into the women's Individual Support Plans, which you will review and update regularly and maintain confidential files, including computerized case management system.
  • Translate and converse with users in their indigenous language and coach users to raise awareness of Life in the U.K (systems, cultures and laws etc).
  • Provide practical and language help to survivors and victims' with regards to their cases through the criminal justice system.
  • Support users to move out of crisis and high-risk independence through to self-development and safe independence.

Person Specification

  • IDVA qualification and/or direct experience of working in domestic/sexual violence.
  • Qualification or training equivalent to minimum level 3 education standard in a relevant topic, such as health and social care.
  • Demonstrable ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Teams), databases and other virtual platforms
  • Experience of working with vulnerable adults and children, acknowledging safeguarding concerns and responding appropriately.
  • Fluent in English and at least one main BME language
  • Minimum of one year working with BME communities experiencing forced marriage & honour-based violence and abuse
  • Experience of managing complex casework, including issues such as child abuse, mental health, substance abuse, working with trauma in adults and children and crisis intervention.
  • Experiencing of working within a supportive setting for vulnerable people, providing direct support and a need led service, undertaking risk and needs assessments and support planning, using a variety of intervention tools.
  • Experience of taking referrals for services, gathering information regarding the victim and their circumstances, assessing the information, agreeing needs and identifying risk, understanding the right service to refer on to.
  • Relevant qualification or equivalent experience in work with vulnerable people especially DA victims, women, young people and children.
  • Good understanding of multi-agency partnership working, of different agencies both statutory and voluntary In-depth knowledge of principles of confidentiality
