Energy Manager

Requirements and skills

  • Ideally, possess qualifications and extensive experience as an energy manager, including a degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as Energy/Environmental Management or Building Services Engineering. Alternatively, equivalent experience in related engineering disciplines like building services, mechanical engineering, or energy engineering would be considered.
  • Minimum of five years of practical experience specifically focused on energy efficiency.
  • Preferably have experience in project management and possess awareness of facilities management practices, which would be advantageous.
  • Membership or working towards membership in a recognised professional body (e.g., EMA, CIBSE, the Energy Institute, IMechE) is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of primary UK/EU decarbonisation policies, trends, and cutting-edge decarbonisation technologies.
  • Proficient in managing Building Management Systems, including familiarity with platforms like Trend, Tridium, Siemens, etc.
  • Experienced in handling industrial energy usage and building services encompassing various aspects such as boilers, steam systems, heat networks, refrigeration, HVAC, Scada/BMS, CHP, heat pumps, and other renewable energy technologies.
  • Proficient with Controls, Variable Speed Drives (VSDs), and Metering Systems.
  • Familiarity with Energy Management Systems (e.g., ISO50001), Electrical infrastructure, Process Optimisation, and Efficiency technology design and implementation.
  • Understanding of sustainability standards such as BREEAM, EPC, NABERS, TM44, LEED, or WELL, with preferable accreditation in at least one of these.
  • Possess an analytical mindset coupled with problem-solving skills, expertise in engineering controls, and excellent communication abilities.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of data administration and management functions specific to the energy and sustainability domain.
  • Highly skilled in MS Office applications (Excel, Access, Word, etc.).
  • Strong planning and organisational abilities, capable of managing tasks effectively within tight deadlines and upholding high standards.
  • Exhibit strong team interaction skills to collaborate effectively with site teams at all organisational levels.
  • Hold a valid UK Driving License as occasional travel within the UK may be required.

  • Address energy-related inquiries and perform on-site examinations, encompassing BMS interventions.
  • Execute energy audits/surveys throughout the portfolio to kickstart data-driven and analytical solutions.
  • Resolve issues and offer consultative assistance to operational and client stakeholder groups.
  • Provide technical and operational aid for utility metering and monitoring system strategies.
  • Institute protocols for data acquisition and analysis, with a keen focus on technical intricacies.
