SHEQ Manager

Our client, an established yet growing Engineering Company based in Burntwood, Staffordshire, are looking for an experienced SHEQ Manager to manage the following business functions:-

  • Quality accreditations to include ISO 9001, FORS, RISQS, Achillies, Ecovadis and their audits.
  • Health and Safety management and implementation.
  • Quality measurement.
  • Facilities management.
  • Sustainability initiatives; design and implement.
  • Compliance- manage 1 direct report.

An attractive highly attractive salary will be offered, plus company car or allowance.

The SHEQ Manager will be required to manage the following areas:-

Health & Safety

  • Oversee production of risk assessments for all locations including offices/distribution/workshops and for field-based engineering team.
  • Ensure engineering staff test and inspect equipment.
  • Ensure site assessments are conducted.
  • Ensure appropriate procedures are in-place for fire alarm testing, fire drills, and maintenance of fire equipment.
  • Carry out H&S training, to include accident prevention training.
  • Ensure compliance with SAFE contractor and other accreditation schemes.
  • Keep up to date with changes in H&S legislation.
  • Continually evaluate, create and implement health and safety procedures.
  • Ensure employees conform with legislation.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, introducing prevention measures for future incidents.
  • Suggest solutions, improvements and prevention steps for safety issues.
  • Ensure compliance with RISQS, Achilles, Sentinel, FORS and ISO.
  • Ensure that Procurement vet sub-contractors maintaining compliance with H&S procedures and IR35.

Quality

  • Maintain Quality Management Systems to ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015.
  • Promote FORS requirements, maintaining Bronze standard.
  • Ensure engineers' RAMS and H&S guidance are kept up to date.
  • Compile and prepare for on-site and off-site annual audits.
  • Work in conjunction with external advisors to keep Directors and Management team up to date with all manners related to quality, health, safety and environmental issues.
  • Chair H&S reviews and complete associated paperwork.
  • Implement Company Health and Safety Management processes.
  • Ensure Compliance with environmental and sustainability legislation.
  • Ensure a safe environment is provided for staff and visitors.
  • Oversee the internal audit process and the collation of key quality performance measures.
  • Produce audit plans for selected accreditations.
  • Ensure that department managers implement corrective actions as required and within agreed timescales.
  • Provide in-house training on the quality system to new recruits and other employees as required.
  • Ensure that customer feedback is reviewed and acted upon in line with company procedures.
  • Lead inspections from Competent Authorities
  • Review technical data as part of a project team and provide a QA perspective.
  • Manage and maintain the Company's Quality Management system - including drafting of new procedures to enhance the companies QMS across all business units.
  • Engage with the wider team and sector to gain wider knowledge of the industry, changes in legislation and working procedures affecting the environment of the Company
  • Provide support to other functions within the Company as requested.
  • Ad hoc activities / project work as required.

Facilities

  • Ensure site manuals are available.
  • Ensure all aspects of H&S at work are complied with.
  • Conduct annual fire evacuation processes.
  • Carry out safety audits on all sites.
  • Conduct and review workplace risk assessments.

Environment and Sustainability

  • Complete required hazardous waste documentation.
  • Provide environmental procedure training.
  • Maintain environmental procedural based management system.
  • Support in the management of monthly Environmental and Sustainability meetings.
  • Record all Scope 1,2 data for annual reports.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote sustainability efforts on scope 3.
  • Develop partnerships with environmental organizations, government agencies, and community groups.
  • Prepare and present sustainability reports, including annual sustainability reports.
  • Advocate for sustainable practices within the organization and the community.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
  • Conduct online ECO Vadis Environmental and sustainability audit.
  • Advise on procedures to be followed and equipment to be used to guard against any environmental impact.

The SHEQ Manager will have:-

  • Risk management and health/safety management experience.
  • Up to date knowledge of health and safety laws and guidelines.
  • IOSH membership- minimum Tech IOSH.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • ISO accreditation experience. Internal auditing / management experience of ISO 45001/14001/9001.
  • Hands on Quality Assurance experience.
  • Strong IT skills, including all Microsoft Office.
  • Fire Safety & Fire Risk Assessment qualification.
  • SMSTS (desirable).
  • CDM (desirable.)
  • Fire risk qualifications (desirable.)
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Good leadership and motivational skills.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, especially when dealing with accidents/incidents.
  • The ability to produce detailed reports.
  • Driving licence essential. The role will be based predominantly at the Burntwood office, but will involve travel to other sites 1 or 2 days per week.
