Specialist Education Tutor - SEN and Alternative Provision

About Us

We are building a team of qualified teachers to provide high-quality alternative provision and specialist tutoring across Staffordshire. Our tutors work with some of the most vulnerable young people in education, making a real difference to their educational journey and future opportunities.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Current Enhanced DBS check
  • Strong track record of teaching in mainstream or special education
  • Ability to travel to various locations within Staffordshire
  • Excellent documentation and assessment skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver personalised education programmes for pupils with varying complex needs
  • Conduct and document baseline assessments
  • Gather and provide evidence for Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments (EHCNA)
  • Create and adapt learning materials for individual pupil needs
  • Work in various settings including homes and community venues
  • Attend and contribute to Team Around the School meetings
  • Provide detailed progress reports and maintain comprehensive records
  • Liaise with education welfare officers, SENCOs, and other professionals

Required Experience & Skills

  • Experience working with pupils who have special educational needs
  • Proven ability to:
  • Work with non-verbal pupils
  • Support EAL learners
  • Conduct baseline assessments
  • Create differentiated learning materials
  • Document evidence for EHCNA
  • Build positive relationships with challenging pupils
  • Adapt teaching styles to individual learning needs

Desirable Experience

  • SEND qualification or extensive SEND experience
  • Experience with alternative provision
  • Background in conducting educational assessments
  • Knowledge of EHCP processes
  • Experience with therapeutic approaches to education

Working Pattern

  • Part-time and full-time positions available
  • Typical assignments range from 2-8 hours per week per pupil
  • Initial contracts typically 10-12 weeks with possibility of extension
