Assistant Financial Controller

Butler Rose is partnering with a dynamic business based in Swindon, well-known for its strong brand identity and outstanding market reputation. This organisation boasts a collaborative team culture and is expanding its finance department due to continued growth.

As the Assistant Financial Controller, reporting directly to the Regional Financial Controller, you will manage financial operations across two Swindon sites, each with a turnover of £11 million. These sites are undergoing a £2.5 million expansion, evolving to meet increasing market demands.

In this role, you will play a key part in strategic business partnering with operational stakeholders, closely monitoring and improving profitability across both client operations and site-wide activities, ensuring alignment with annual budget and forecast targets. You'll influence operational decisions, enhance client reporting and invoicing processes, and collaborate across departments-including HR-to ensure smooth site management.

Key responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed weekly management reports, analysing both site and client profitability.
  • Work closely with operations and commercial teams to develop and update budgets and forecasts throughout the year.
  • Manage open-book clients, leading weekly client calls to report on costs and productivity trends, and reconciling expenses at month-end.
  • Support new client onboarding in collaboration with the Onboarding team.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, identifying and implementing changes to boost operational and financial performance.
  • Oversee period-end processes for two sites, reconcile operational costs with weekly KPIs, and post related journals and accruals to the P&L.
  • Perform revenue reconciliations to ensure accurate contract utilisation.
  • Assist with balance sheet reconciliations in collaboration with the Financial Accounting Manager.
  • Track and manage capital expenditure for specific projects and clients.
  • Approve operational invoices, ensuring correct allocation to cost centres and general ledger accounts.

Required Skills:

  • Full driving licence and own vehicle
  • QBE, Part Qualified, or Qualified CIMA/ACCA/ACA (or equivalent)
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills

  • Commercially astute with a proactive approach to challenges

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £40,000-£50,000 per year
Education: Management Accounting - 2 years (preferred)
Work Location: Hybrid (Swindon), with two days working from home each week.
