Security Guard

We are looking for an immediately available individual, to undertake a temporary role as a Security Guard, working for a prestigious institute based on the Biomedical Campus, Cambridge. This assignment is to start immediately, for an initial 3-6 month period (possible transition to permanent contract). You will be working full-time on a 24/7, 365-day shift pattern consisting of 4 days on 07:00 - 19:00, 4 days off, 4 nights on 19:00 - 07:00, 4 days off.

As a Security Guard, your role will be to assist in overseeing the department's security service, including, but not limited to, compliance assurance, fire safety officer responsibilities, emergency planning and associated security functions such as CCTV monitoring, site patrols and access control. You will also carry out reception duties as and when required, interacting with all staff and visitors to provide a friendly, helpful, and professional service to a wide range of people.

Whilst full in-house training will be given for the specifics of the role, applicants will need to be able to demonstrate key skills of communication, organisation, ability to follow process and procedure, a strong work ethic and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out regular security patrols of main building (4 patrols per night)
  • Monitor site wide CCTV system
  • Respond to various alarms across the site
  • Carryout regular fire alarm system checks as designated, enabling and disabling zones as required and resetting after activation
  • Respond to requests for assistance by staff, including access to rooms
  • Answer telephone enquiries and act if required
  • Assist with out of hours events by providing security and first aid services
  • Follow instructions left by Security Supervisor or other members of the security team, maintenance staff or technical staff
  • Deal with out of hours deliveries
  • Assist with emergency services (if/when required)
  • Complete site "Incident Reports" when needed
  • Be responsive, enthusiastic, polite, helpful, and professional whilst on duty

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Manages own workload effectively
  • Communicates with colleagues, internal and external contacts in a professional manner

  • IT Literate
  • Flexible on working hours and able to work night shifts
  • GCSE grades A to C or equivalent
