English Teacher in a SEMH School

Tradewind Recruitment is currently looking for an English teacher to join a therapeutic SEND school in Rochdale catering for children aged 6 to 18 with SEMH needs.

This is a full- time temporary teaching role from as soon as possible.

The Role

English teacher or SEND teacher with experience teaching GCSE English

Five days a week - working hours 8.30am to 4.30pm

Teaching English to small classes of secondary age students with social, emotional or mental health needs.

Teachers are required to offer consistency and flexibility in their approach, to rebuilt trust and positive relationship with students.

Pupils are secondary age although some are working at much lower levels than expected for their age, including primary level.

The school welcome applications from SEND teachers which recent English teaching experience in alternative education and secondary English teachers who are looking to work in a challenging but extremely rewarding environment.

The School

Small independent SEMH school for pupils aged 6-18 located in Rochdale.

The school is registered to offer education to 30 pupils with a range of needs including ADHD, autism, developmental trauma, anxiety, sensory processing difficulties, dyslexia, and attachment difficulties, amongst other varying needs.

There are currently 26 pupils on roll aged between 6 and 18.

Located in a farmhouse in the Rochdale hills, the small classrooms provide an intimate calm learning space for children with ASD and SEMH.

Staff foster positive relationships with pupils. They support pupils who have previously experienced trauma with a range of effective therapeutic approaches. To join us and be successful in this SEMH English Teacher role, you will need to:

  • Hold QTS Status or QTLS or an equivalent Further education teaching qualification such as PGCE Special Needs or Certificate of Education
  • This position is subject to an Enhanced DBS Disclosure, Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) and professional references checks
  • Provide a CV with a full employment/education history included and any employment breaks must be explained
  • Have the legal right to work full time in the UK
