Software Development Manager

A quick look at the role

Reporting directly to the Head of Software Engineering, the Software Development Manager is critical in building high quality applications across the business, with a key focus on providing scalable, robust & user-friendly solutions. The role leads the software development team, building a loyal and engaged group of developers to deliver work on time to quality standards. The role will evolve ways of working to increase efficiency and provide opportunities for upskilling for the team, coaching team members and developing talent.

Your core responsibilities

  • Lead & drive the software development team to deliver their commitments, escalating any challenges in good time and forming resolution plans to bring delivery back on time.
  • Use programming experience to provide technical guidance, clear thinking, commercial and pragmatic decision-making to enable developers to make better decisions & credible delivery plans.
  • Lead, motivate, develop and manage the performance of the team to ensure that they have the skills and support to achieve their potential and meet the company's high quality standard's.
  • Support additional work streams and projects in collaboration with the wider 'development team,' partaking in code reviews where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Architecture, the IT Leadership team and the IT Service team to ensure alignment with the overall IT architecture landscape.
  • Collaborate with third party development organisations ensuring the quality delivered to coincide with internal projects.
  • Building relationships across IT, the wider business and key external stakeholders to ensure delivery of high quality applications in line with agreed SLA's.

Our essential requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 years' experience in a similar role leading software development teams
  • Knowledge of technologies, including Microsoft .NET, ASP.NET Core (C#), and RESTful web services
  • Familiar with Power Platform, Sitecore, UiPath or similar RPA tool is desirable
  • Experience in all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle - incl. DevOps & Release Management
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
