A leading Bristol-based company is seeking a Data Engineering and Science Team Leader to oversee the IoT Data Specialists. This role involves collaborating with IoT Specialists and business stakeholders to prototype and deliver IoT data proof-of-value agile experiments, manage larger projects, and maintain live systems both on-premise and in the cloud.
Responsibilities:
- Leadership in Data Evaluation: Lead the evaluation and review of data engineering and data science methods, tools, and standards within the organisation.
- Testing Oversight: Plan, design, and conduct unit tests on models and algorithms, collaborating with the QA team to correct defects and achieve error-free results.
- Performance Testing: Lead the planning and execution of performance and usability tests to ensure solutions are effective and user-friendly.
- Technical Specification Review: Review technical specifications from suppliers and IT partners to maintain expected quality standards.
- Standards Maintenance: Collaborate with Technical and Solution Architects to establish and uphold standards, patterns, and designs.
- Solution Development: Design, code, test, and document data solutions for Wessex Water, adhering to established techniques and standards.
- Data Security Compliance: Ensure model and algorithm development complies with company security standards, minimising data security risks.
- Team Development: Support team member growth through check-ins and line management responsibilities as outlined by the business
Experience:
- Previous role in a lead position within a data engineering or data science team, demonstrating a strong technical skill set.
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration with technical colleagues, IT partners, and consultants, both on-site and remotely.
- Experience with the complete development lifecycle, including design, development, deployment, and debugging.
- Advanced knowledge of Azure Data development, including Synapse, Azure Data Factory, and ADX; familiarity with Databricks, Logic Apps, and the Power Platform.
- Knowledge of machine learning methods (e.g., clustering, decision trees, neural networks) and their real-world applications.
- Understanding of advanced statistical concepts (e.g., regression, distributions, statistical tests).
- Proficient in advanced coding with Python.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., CosmosDB, Cassandra).
- Knowledge of testing techniques for planning and executing tests (both functional and non-functional).
