Main Purpose of the Job

  • To assist the Site Manager to ensure the safe, environmentally compliant and efficient operation of the facility within established operational standards.
  • Responsible for managing a team of shift personnel in control of the process to achieve the business objectives set by the company and/or the Site Manager
  • To manage the processing operation of a busy waste treatment plant, whilst maintaining the highest level of compliance to the company's health and safety, environmental, procedural and statutory goals.
  • To oversee and/or perform the day-to-day maintenance tasks associated with the operation of a busy waste treatment plant, whilst maintaining the highest level of compliance to the company's health and safety, environmental, procedural and statutory goals.
  • To respond to plant break-downs and to negotiate/liaise with external contractors/suppliers of specialist maintenance support or equipment.

The role

Manage all plant personnel maintenance requirements to ensure optimal performance.

  • Promote the importance of Health and Safety on site including the PROUD ethos.
  • Responsible for supporting Site Manager in all aspects of Operations shift management, including cover arrangements for holidays, sickness, or other shift changes.
  • Line management responsibilities for all plant personnel, including ensuring training is provided in line with company & site procedures; absence management; performance management; disciplinary processes; providing development opportunities to Plant Supervisors and carrying out competency checks.
  • You will be expected to take a positive approach to issues that may occur on the plant and propose solutions to the site manager, so that plans can be made in advance of a planned shut-down to remedy potential issues.
  • Ensure daily checks, response sheets, and inspections are completed and all faults are recorded and reported.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all planned preventative maintenance is carried out in accordance with the relevant schedule that is in place, permit to works are completed, and annual services are completed in time.
  • Control of inventory, chemicals on site, vetting 3rd party contractors, PPM (in agreement with engineering) and escalation of out of hours response.
  • Ensure that all relevant documentation related to plant maintenance and operations activities at the site is completed and filed in the appropriate manner, such as document controls and statutory inspections
  • Ensure that all areas of the plant are kept and operated in a safe manner at all times.
  • Analyse all plant delays and propose solutions to repetitive issues
  • Have a proactive approach to potential issues around the site and work with other personnel and departments to find solutions.
  • Take a proactive approach to health and safety to ensure compliance in all areas and oversee continual improvements.
  • Ensure all waste is stored in accordance with the site permit. Ensure that waste volumes are both kept and managed within the guidelines stipulated within the waste management permit and planning application.
  • Working with the site manager and SHEQ support, to ensure all risk assessments are up to date and that all staff are trained in them. Support with Q Pulse Management for plant personnel.
  • Produce the necessary periodic reports as required for submission to either the company and/or the regulator with regards to plant and waste matters.
  • SHEQ Requirements:
  • Working knowledge of the EA Permit
  • Understanding of HSE & Responsibilities
  • Ensure Safe Working Procedures are up to date
  • Ensure Risk Assessments are relevant and up to date
  • Working knowledge of LOLER, PUWER, COSHH
  • Responsible for financial control and contractor finances including SBL.
  • Ensure PO numbers for suppliers are raised in a timely manner.

The person

  • Experience of working within a process industry/with process equipment
  • Experience of Environmental Legislation
  • Mechanical or electrical apprenticeship or equivalent preferred
  • Proven team management skills
