Specifications Technologist

Role Purpose
Taking responsibility for the technical integrity and legal obligations of the food supply aspects of the operation and driving continuous improvement.
Working Hours:
Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • To keep the quality manual and other food safety documents including HACCP up to date and to ensure the company meets with all current food legislation.

  • To support the successful completion of customer and third-party audits and visits.

  • To ensure that suppliers meet with the company's quality requirements.

  • To maintain the company's product & packaging specifications and labelling systems.

  • To gather, calculate and submit data for the company's obligations under packaging waste regulations and EPR.

  • To complete customer line forms, questionnaires and specification requests.

  • To set up and maintain data in the company's ERP system(s).

  • To undertake GMP audits according to agreed audit schedule, distribute the results and ensure the closure of actions raised.

  • To lead and/or participate in root cause investigation when incidents or trends appear.

  • To participate in the investigation of complaints, food safety close calls and trends ensuring effective preventive measures are put in place.

  • To train relevant quality management procedures and personnel linked to food safety and supporting a quality culture as appropriate.

  • Challenge hygiene practices and standards with the aim of reducing food safety incidences.

  • To effectively manage allocated continuous improvement projects.

  • To proactively support initiatives to improve product safety, quality and culture.

  • To support and develop the Technical department in conjunction with line manager.

Key Requirements

    • Ideally you will have worked in a technical and quality role within the food sector for at least 2 years.
  • The desirable candidate will have a degree in Food Science or a related subject.

  • A good understanding of production processes, raw materials, allergens and finished products.

  • Outstanding attention to detail.

  • Organised, methodical, with excellent administrative and strong communication skills.

  • Good relationship building skills with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • An understanding of the principles of GMP and Global Food Safety Initiatives.

  • An excellent multi-tasker, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and who thrives in a fast paced role and environment.
  • Detail oriented, with excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Strong MS Office skills, including Excel.
  • You will be motivated, bright and willing to take on new challenges.

  • Enthusiastic with a strong work ethic.
  • Be proactive, motivated and a self-starter seeing projects through from start to finish.
