Job Description

Job Title : Chemistry Analyst

Job Type: 12 months temporary

Hours : 37.5 hours per week

Job Location : Cramlington

Shift: Sunday 8-4, Monday – Thursday 12-8

As a Chemist, you'll be responsible for preparing samples and performing analytical procedures to provide accurate and reliable test results to clients in accordance with written and verbal instructions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Analysis and preparation of laboratory samples and reagents in accordance with specified test procedures.
  • Perform testing in accordance with internal quality procedures and ensure the results reported are accurate and valid.
  • Upload the results of analyses into the company's reporting system and ensure the timely transfer of outcomes for reporting to customers via the Company's assured internal procedures.
  • Participate in relevant internal and external proficiency schemes to ensure that reliable results are delivered to customers.
  • Perform daily calibrations, routine maintenance on equipment, and balance checks as per SOP's.
  • Alert the Laboratory Manager to any faults with company equipment.
  • Maintain method on going competency and carry out training of test methods to other members of staff.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Methodical of working within an environment requiring you to work in line with written methods and procedures.
  • High focus on precision and accuracy.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software and general computer practice.
  • Educated to A level (or equivalent) including Maths and English GCSE.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of standard food testing methods.
  • Understanding of relevant ISO and UKAS requirement faced by a food testing laboratory.
  • Experience of working in a laboratory.
  • Degree (or equivalent) level qualification in a scientific field.
