Groundsman

We are looking for a skilled Groundsperson to join the small facilities team within a reputable school, responsible for maintaining the sports grounds, including turf culture, horticulture, arboriculture, as well as the upkeep of buildings, facilities, and sports equipment. This role requires a flexible approach to working hours due to the nature of sports fixtures and weather conditions.

  • Maintain and prepare sports pitches and playing fields.
  • Clean and tidy the pathways, pavilion, and surrounding areas, ensuring they are fit for use.
  • Operate grounds maintenance equipment such as tractors, mowers, and rollers.
  • Order equipment and supplies with approval from the Premises Manager.
  • Liaise with sports staff on fixtures and pitch safety.
  • Conduct minor maintenance and tree works, adhering to health and safety regulations.
  • Assist with parking and security at the sports grounds as required.
  • Support major school events and functions, some of which may occur on weekends.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Good communication skills and the ability to interact confidently with all members of the school community.
  • High level of organisational skills.
  • Experience in a Groundsperson or similar role.
  • Proven track record of managing and servicing grounds and equipment.
  • IT competence at a level to meet the demands of the job, emails and general communication.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive and imaginative approach.
  • Flexibility and willingness to be involved with the ability to work with young people.
  • Understanding of the importance of Safeguarding and Health and Safety.
