Smart Education is currently recruiting for a Head of Computing to work at a school in Birmingham. Many of our young people have complex medical needs and many have been out of education for a significant period prior to joining the school.

Job Requirements for the Head of Computing position:

Qualifications: Relevant teaching qualifications and certifications

Experience: Proven experience in delivering and developing Computing & ICT curricula across KS3, KS4, and KS5

Skills: Strong leadership, curriculum design, and staff development skills

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and ensure the effective delivery of Computing & ICT schemes of work
  • Collaborate with Primary Lead teachers to create a cohesive curriculum feeding into KS3
  • Develop innovative and progressive Computing & ICT curricula supported by extracurricular activities
  • Support the delivery of Computing & ICT in hospital settings
  • Lead subject meetings and provide training for teaching staff
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of educational initiatives and coach colleagues accordingly
  • Work with Centre Leadership teams to enhance the skills of TAs
  • Regularly meet with the IT team and DPO to support the academy-wide IT strategy
  • Identify and lead efficiency initiatives

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate curriculum delivery and development
  • Advise on policy related to the Computing & ICT curriculum
  • Participate in preparation for public examinations and assessments
  • Monitor and review curriculum delivery and assessment regularly
  • Ensure all students receive an appropriate curriculum
  • Monitor and report individual student progress
  • Enhance teaching practices within the academy
  • Keep up to date with subject developments and liaise with external agencies
  • Ensure statutory requirements of the National Curriculum are met
  • Participate in staff recruitment processes
  • Organise and chair team meetings
  • Act as a team leader for appraisals
  • Manage physical and financial resources efficiently
  • Develop effective communication within the academy and with external stakeholders
  • Prepare reports for the Trustee Board and Principal
  • Undertake classroom teaching duties as required
  • Attend Extended Leadership meetings
  • Maintain compliance with ICT policies and legislation
  • Manage leadership and trustee-commissioned projects
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children
  • Support inclusive practice and promote diversity and equality
  • Follow data protection procedures and maintain confidentiality
  • Uphold the academy's vision, aims, and ethical leadership framework
