Compliance Manager - Data Protection & Regulatory Liaison

Santander Consumer Finance UK (SCUK) is based in Redhill, Surrey and provides motor finance to a network of dealerships throughout the United Kingdom. We are currently looking for a Compliance Manager to join the team on a permanent basis.

In this interesting role you will be responsible for oversight of all compliance matters across the business, but with specific responsibility for data protection and regulatory liaison. This is a hybrid role with at least 2 days a week in the Redhill office, and remote workers will not be considered.

Responsibilities will include:

General Responsibilities

  • Assist in day-to-day management of compliance matters as SME within the business
  • Manage a small team of Compliance Officers and take responsibility for their development
  • Provide leadership to junior members of the team
  • Help the department meet its internal SLAs
  • Ensure appropriate and timely engagement with internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist the Head of Compliance and other senior compliance stakeholders when required
  • Work with other Compliance Managers to ensure department goals are met
  • Build upon internal relationships and those within San UK and SCF Madrid to build a collaborative working environment
  • Provide assistance on department level projects and initiatives and act as a team player.
  • Provide assistance and support on business projects as required
  • Take responsibility and manage RCSA requirements relevant to your areas of responsibility
  • Produce high quality MI for relevant committees
  • Actively advocate for a good culture across SCUK, promoting a good compliance culture
  • Escalate any compliance issues in accordance with governance
  • Attend external events when required

Data Protection

  • SME for data protection related matters
  • Responsible for business adherence to data protection legislation, including the completion of 'health checks' and annual assessments
  • Responsible for the development of additional training for the business
  • Work with San UK Data Protection Office to ensure a joined-up approach to data protection implementation
  • Keep up to date on regulatory changes, and notify the business accordingly
  • Responsible for ensuring changes to legislation are implemented effectively
  • Ensure all business policies in relation to data protection, are kept up to date
  • Responsible for ensuring that all breaches and incidents are reported in accordance with regulatory requirements and business processes
  • Working with Joint Ventures and Compliance Risk and MI manager, to ensure that their data protection reporting requirements are met

Regulatory Liaison

  • Responsible for the management of all interactions with Regulatory bodies
  • Working with relevant stakeholders and ExCo, to draft appropriate responses to regulatory information request
  • Manage responses to monthly regulatory reporting as required
  • Responsible for all annual FCA reporting, including collating data from across the business, obtaining appropriate sign off and submission
  • Provide regular updates to ExCo on regulatory contact
  • Attend relevant committees where required
  • Work with San UK Regulatory Liaison Team to ensure a joined-up approach to regulatory contact
  • Liaise with Joint Ventures on joint responses where required

Management

  • Management of relevant Compliance Officer(s)
  • Direction of work flows and oversight of output from team members
  • Development of strategy for team to deliver against agreed objectives
  • Ensure regular appraisals and performance reviews of team members
  • Working with other members of the Compliance function and the Head of Compliance to ensure alignment to strategy and effective management of resource

Other Duties

  • Develop and deliver appropriate training to staff/stakeholders relating to areas within expertise
  • Adhering to our commitment to Consumer Duty ensuring we put our Customers' needs first and set higher and clearer standards of consumer protection

What we're looking for:

  • A Compliance (or other relevant) qualification
  • Extensive knowledge of Compliance issues within consumer credit
  • Change management experience
  • Developed knowledge of FCA regulations and rule books
  • Previous, demonstrable, line management experience
  • Previous experience and understanding of the Motor Finance sector is preferable (but not essential)
