Overview of an IT Support Officer:

Pertemps have an exciting opportunity within Harrow Council for a self-driven and motivated IT Support Officer to join an expanding team. The role of a IT Support Officer has a competitive pay rate of £17.94 PAYE.

The Main Purpose of an IT Support Officer:

" To provide I.T application and technical support within the Revenues & Benefits Teams, including liaison with internal and external suppliers of goods and services. Jointly responsible for the implementation of new system releases & patches, ensuring all work is coordinated with relevant departments and by the set deadlines to minimise disruption to users to include identification of bug fixes, new functionality and new testing requirements:

1. To support Team in prioritising systems workload.

2. To ensure the smooth running of the sections' systems

3. Utilise software tools and utilities to maximise the opportunity to automate processes and improve efficiency

4. To ensure that procedures are maintained and operated within the requirements of any relevant legislative and corporate standards.

5. Maintain accurate records of hardware and software using software tools

6. Ensure access to systems is secure and controlled

7. Manage the batch jobs via the batch scheduler and maintain relevant diary ensuring all critical jobs are run on time.

8. Additionally, you will be responsible for the transmission of BACS payment and recovery files to the bank on behalf of the SAP Revenues and Benefits teams on a daily basis, and to print cheques where no electronic payment process has been arranged. The payments we administer include Payroll, Pensions, Council Payments, and Direct Debit set up and recovery and HB Payments

" Troubleshoot systems problems and liaise with relevant 3rd parties to ensure a speedy resolution and minimize disruption to users and services.

" Provide first line system support to Revenues and Benefits users. Investigate and record system problems, including liaison with staff and managers and recommending solutions where possible. Determine when problems should be referred to the computer system supplier.

" Ensure quality control and security and integrity of user access to the Revenues IT system for the configuration of users with regard to security access to databases and data.

About you, the successful IT Support Officer will have:

" Ability to be flexible in working arrangements depending on the demands of the service

" You must be adept at resolving technical issues and be methodical and organised in your approach.

" Ability to assimilate varied and extensive data and make appropriate recommendations as to required actions.

" Ability to manage own workload and reprioritise work according to changing work environment

" 2 Years experience of Revenues or Housing Benefits work

" You will need to work on your own initiative in a highly pressurised environment with ever changing and conflicting priorities

" You must be adept at resolving technical issues and be methodical and organised in your approach

" A flexible attitude is essential as there will be times when you are required to work outside of office hours.

" You must have good knowledge of CIVICA and Northgate IT system for this role
