Salary: £21,182 - £24,458 PA, Plus Benefits Package

Travellers Liaison Officer - The Role:

Your role will be to develop and maintain the best possible relationship between the Council and travellers throughout the District, overseeing the management of the Council's three sites and operating procedures in respect of unauthorised encampments.

Working directly with all Gypsy, Roma, Traveller families across the district to identify children 0-16 and ensuring that all children are known to and engaging with education authorities. Identifying and removing barriers to welfare in relation to health, social needs, accommodation, education and financial needs.

Travellers Liaison Officer - Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and build relationships of trust with travellers in the district to support their integration into the wider community
  • Manage and maintain the Council's travellers' sites, ensuring compliance with site conditions
  • Collect rents and charges from travellers' sites
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of site budgets
  • Work directly with all Gypsy, Roma, Traveller families across the district to identify children aged 0-16
  • Ensure that all identified children are known to and engaging with education authorities
  • Identify and remove barriers to welfare concerning health, social needs, accommodation, education, and financial needs

Travellers Liaison Officer - You:

  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including grade A – C in English and Maths
  • Experience dealing with the traveller community (preferred but not essential)
  • Good understanding of issues affecting the travelling community
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships
  • Ability to manage conflict and difficult situations
  • Valid driving license and access to a car
