Data Protection Consultant

A global manufacturing organisation require an experienced Data Protection Consultant familiar with UK and Australian Data Protection regulations for a 6 month contract (likely duration 9-12 months).

The contract will be a hybrid role with 4 days a week working from home.

The Data Protection Consultant will play a pivotal role in ensuring data is protected and comply with data protection legislation in the UK and Australia. This role will support the management of potentially sensitive data to support the integration of our subsidiary in the UK with our corporate systems in Australian .

Key responsibilities - Data Protection Consultant

  • Evaluate the existing data protection framework to identify areas of no or partial compliance, and rectify any issues.
  • Draft new and amend existing internal data protection policies, guidelines, and procedures, in consultation with key stakeholders to govern the transfer of data cross boarders (between the UK and Australia).
  • Develop and maintain records of all data processing activities.
  • Identify relevant legal and contractual requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of all legal and compliance-related activities to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Support audits to identify the potential for gaps in compliance that could arise when the UK entity is integrated into the Australian entity.
  • Identify potential legal issues that could arise during and after the integration. Provide recommendations to resolve those issues.
  • Provide ongoing legal advice to the team on any emerging legal risks and how to mitigate them.
  • Collaborate with internal legal advisors, HR, technology and operations teams, and other consultants as necessary to support the integration process and identify risks.
  • Communicate with all relevant employees to promote data protection compliance within the organization
  • Develop and deliver training
  • Prepare and present reports to the team, outlining findings, recommendations, and action plans.

Skills & Experience - Data Protection Consultant

  • Strong experience in data protection compliance
  • Expertise in data protection laws and practices, including a deep understanding of UK GDPR & Australian data protection regulation.
  • Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)
  • Excellent communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable:

  • Experience in commercial law, with a focus compliance, and regulatory affairs.
  • Risk and audit experience is an asset.
  • Technology integration experience.
  • Experience conducting compliance audits.
  • Experience working with international multi-disciplinary teams.
