We are a well-established legal practice in Guildford seeking a meticulous and experienced Senior Accounts Payable professional to join our finance team. This full-time role offers a competitive salary and the opportunity to work within a dynamic and supportive environment. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing accounts payable processes and delivering efficient financial operations.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Oversee and manage the entire accounts payable process, including invoice processing, payment disbursement, and vendor communications.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices, purchase orders, expense reports, credit memos, and payment transactions.
  • Maintain historical records by filing documents and keeping detailed logs of all accounts payable transactions.
  • Prepare monthly reports and assist with month-end closing procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain systems, procedures, and policies to ensure adherence to company guidelines.
  • Provide training and support to accounts payable staff and other junior team members.
  • Liaise with internal departments and external vendors to resolve invoice discrepancies and issues.
  • Assist with external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Manage vendor relationships and negotiate payment terms where necessary.
  • Continuously improve payment processes and systems to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in an accounts payable role, preferably within a legal or professional services environment.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and accounts payable processes.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and strong computer skills, particularly in MS Excel.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of transactions and prioritise workloads.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both finance and non-finance professionals.
  • Leadership skills with experience in supervising or mentoring staff.
  • AAT, ACCA, CIMA part-qualification or equivalent is desirable.
