Lead English Teacher, SEMH/SEN school

Location: Midge Hall, near Leyland, Lancashire

Salary: M1 - UPS2 plus Expert payment of £1,500 per annum in addition to current salary

Hours: 40 hours per week - Term Time Only

At this school they support young people aged 9-16 who face various challenges associated with social, emotional and mental health needs, including those who face communication and behavioural challenges associated with Autism Spectrum Conditions.

This school is part of a group of over 15 SEN schools across the UK. They are the sixth-largest provider of specialist educational services in the country, supporting over 900 children and young people, and employing over 1,000 staff.

Lead Teacher - English, Literacy, Phonics & Careers Education Information, Advice & Guidance (CEIAG)

Key duties in addition to standard SEN Teaching role:

  • Lead, organise, and coordinate English within the whole school.
  • Manage and lead relevant approaches and subject information including assessment of progress in English, literacy, phonics
  • Ensure literacy and phonics interventions are co-ordinated, delivered and tracked
  • Develop English as a specialist and successful dimension of the academic curriculum offer; reflected by improved progress and outcomes for all pupils.
  • Provide training to staff as and when required
  • Provide relevant progress and teaching/learning quality information to SLT as required
  • Act as Careers Officer ensuring compliance with the Gatsby Benchmarks

Qualifications:

  • PGCE, QTS, Cert Ed or equivalent teaching qualification and evidence of in-service training.
  • Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN, SLD/PMLD and ASD
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
  • Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate

  • Experience of successfully delivering a differentiated curriculum to students with a wide range of needs.
  • Experience of working in a therapeutic environment
