The Post - Librarian

There is currently a vacancy for a Librarian to work within the UWS Library service in Dumfries, set within a peaceful location in south-west Scotland.

Dumfries Campus Library, based within the Dumfries & Galloway College Campus, provides services to students from University of the West of Scotland, University of Glasgow and Dumfries and Galloway College and is an integral part of the UWS Library Service which extends across five- campuses including Ayr, Lanarkshire (Blantyre), London and Paisley.

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Educated to degree level or have relevant experience
  • Relevant librarian academic or professional qualification
  • (Applicants with a degree and/or relevant experience who do not yet have a librarian qualification must be willing to undertake CILIP professional accreditation on taking up the post).
  • Experience of working in a library
  • Awareness of copywright and licensing in relation to learning materials is essential

The post holder will be a key member of the UWS librarian team with a focus on Learning & Teaching support for students from all three Dumfries based institutions alongside taking a key role in the development of learning resources support across UWS library service.

You will lead support for library user education, and information and digital literacy skills at Dumfries Campus, including supervising Dumfries library assistant user support activities and will work with academic staff to embed information and digital literacy skills development within the curriculum. You will also work as part of a team of teaching and learning librarians developing online self-help guidance and providing remote and in-person support to students across UWS. In addition, you will work within the broader library services team to contribute to the development of procedures and practical guidance for the selection and use of learning materials within teaching, delivering academic staff training on the effective use of Module Resource List software (currently Leganto) and promoting its use.

This is a part-time post equivalent to 0.8FTE (28 hours per week) and there is some flexibility for the exact working pattern to be agreed with the successful candidate.
