Assistant Accountant

An exciting opportunity is available for a fully officed based Assistant Accountant to join my client's Finance Team of 3. Working closely with the Finance Director to support the day to day running of the department, with excellent opportunities for development as the scope of the job will grow over time.

The successful candidate will have a proven background within a finance function, ideally a minimum of 2 years, preferably within an SME business. You will be confident in reconciliations and query resolution across all aspects of transactional management. The client is keen to find an individual who is looking to develop their skills and knowledge within accounting. Based in an open plan office shared with the Customer Service and Supply Chain teams, it is a fun and lively environment.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of the monthly accounts to include fixed assets, accruals and prepayments, revenue recognition etc.
  • Ensure finance records are kept accurately and securely in line with legislative requirements
  • Daily reconciliation of 8 bank accounts working with a large number of transactions
  • Calculation of royalties and commission.
  • Manage the Sales Ledger and Credit Control
  • Intercompany reconciliations
  • Deputising for the Purchase Ledger Assistant
  • Compile VAT returns
  • Work closely with the Customer Service Team and resolve any finance queries
  • Liaise with Customers by phone and email as required

Essential Skill and Experience

  • Ideally minimum of 2 years hands on experience within Accounting
  • Part AAT qualified
  • High level of computer literacy - needs to be a proficient user of financial systems
  • Good Excel skills to include VLookups and Pivot Tables
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and listening skills
  • A critical attention to detail.
  • Driven and ambitious to resolve tasks.
  • A team player who is willing to support on a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Forward-thinking individual with excellent communication skills.
  • Proactive and striving to grow and succeed with the organisation.
  • Own transport (the location has limited public transport options)
